With the next few weeks full of festivals galore, we ran a competition for you to share your top 3 tips for a safe and great festival. We receive great tips – check out the list for all the entries – you may just get the tip you needed to make sure you have a great festival time. Got your own to share? Then leave a comment with them.
- PLASTIC: Take some plastic ziplock sandwich bags with you to keep your mobile and camera dry! Regardless of whether it rains or not, someone WILL spill their drink on you at some stage of the day and the last thing you want is your camera to die and you won’t be able to capture all of the moment…s.
- DELETE: It’s a good idea to go through your camera/phone the day before the gig and delete any photos you’ve already uploaded to your computer. Nothing worse than when your fav band is on and you’ve run out of room on your camera!
- DEODORANT: Always. Wear. Deodorant! There’s absolutely nothing worse than being in a mosh surrounded by stinky people… Do your part for the festival!
- Have a big meal before you enter
- Bring a mini drink bottle, easy to pop into a pocket.
- I would never enter a moshpit without bandaids, proper shoes and a sense of direction.
- Take supplies when entering the mosh. you may have to battle for hours to get that special spot on the rail, you don’t want to leave to get water or sunscreen etc. (get a standard single use water bottle from save a mate of a kiosk. drink half, squeeze the air out and crush it flat. fits in nearly any pocket, also…, learn how to pee in the bottle when its empty…….
- Don’t forget to eat, no food plus alcohol will make you sick as a dog AND you’ll get stomach cramps, plus no one wants to be that loser lying on the grass throwing up in the beer they’re drinking.
- Greasy food will make you feel rotten in hot weather so steer clear of anything suspicious.
- ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS party safe.
- If you do end up pitching a tent in the rain. make sure your wearing a rain coat  JOSSLE OUT
- Familiarise yourself with the layout of the venue early, makes meeting up with/finding people and places a lot easier.. especially in emergencies
- Take extra sunscreen that can fit in your pocket… no-one wants to leave there wicked spot in the mosh to go put more on.. so have it with you!
- Festival with friends!… not only is it more fun but then you have someone to look out for you and vise versa so if something does go wrong you are not alone.
- Don’t do Drugs, Don’t do Drugs, Don’t do Drugs
- Don’t risk skin cancer slop on that sunscreen.
- Take your mates for safety.
- Stay hydrated, keep up your fluids.
- Wear good shoes, in fact wear shoes full stop. The amount of people with feet issues at festivals due to cuts, infection, blisters and bad/broken shoes is incredible.
- Drink plenty of water. It can actually get above 40 degrees in the mosh depending on the weather and no one wants to go home in an ambulance because… they got very dehydrated or even heat stroke.
- Be sun smart. Skin cancer is not pretty and seriously, who wants a random hand print burned into their back?
- You needa go with your mates – you watch out for them and they watch out for you.
- Water – yeah, you need water.
- Sunscreen- don’t put yourself at risk of skin cancer at a later stage. Also, just don’t burn
- Have your closest friends there with you so they will love and care for you
- take sunscreen pump big bottle
- water to keep hydrated
- Go with a bunch of good mates that will look after one another, whilst having a good time, no matter what happens. After all what’s a good concert without someone to share it with, take photos with and laugh about with later?
- Pace yourself. You’re in for a long day/few days, make sure you…’ll still be dancing when the great bands kick off.
- Always take a cute jumper/jacket – I know it sounds Nanna. But seriously, no matter how warm it is during the day it WILL get cold and the mosh pit will only sustain you for so long! xx
- Ladies keep a travel pack of tissues with u – the loos WILL run out of paper
- Wear comfy closed in shoes
- Write up a simplified timetable of what u want to see, when and where before you get there – BDO timetables are already available online!
- Enclosed comfortable shoes to avoid being stepped on by other in the moshpit etc
- Sunscreen, hat, sunnies, drink bottle, camera , phone in a small bag
- Cash .. there will be no eftpos etc at the festivals and to avoid the long lines at atm machines.
- Plenty of water so you don’t get dehydrated in the sun.
- familiarise yourself with the map and have a meet up spot if anyone gets lost
- Bring water!
- Bring a big tough guy, so he can keep creeps away and you can sit on his shoulders.
- Bring ear plugs so you don’t have to listen to the crapppp bands
- The top 3 items which are a must would be my iPhone with a Logitech Speaker, My favourite band I would never miss, at the same time I could “tweeter”. A portable hardrive would also provide endless songs through the festive season. I can dance and have a musical blast In any place or any region
- But most of all, we must stay safe, as during this time people can be a bit “rough”, by carrying my distress alarm (alarm clock would do) I can use it if things get tough!
- If you drink don’t drive- clearly everyone knows that anyway
- Wear enclosed shoes – dust and sweat = mud!
- Get Over Yourself – there is no such thing as personal space!
- Just Say No – drugs are everywhere and so are the cops!
- Wear cool clothes
- Take band-aids in case you get blisters on your feet
- Take hand sanitizer to clean your hands before you eat
- Condoms and lube in case you get jiggy with it in more ways than one
- I.D so if anything happens people know who you are
- Know the locations of all the nearest toilets and make sure u wear something that aint tight. cause when u gotta go, u gotta go.
- take a back pack with all ur “ESSENTIALS” shyt + gum.
- Definitely take some sort of entertainment for when u get bored.
- Bring a big tough guy, so he can keep creeps away and you can sit on his shoulders.
- Bring ear plugs so you don’t have to listen to the crapppp bands
- Don’t wear white!
