6 days together in Italy
4 months on Skype
6 days together in the U.S and then…
5 weeks later I flew to Australia moved in with him.
I have now been here for a year and a half happy and in love as ever.
Yes I was lucky, and maybe I’m a bit crazy. I took a hell of a risk on someone that I had really only spent 12 days with in person however; I did take notice of some important characteristics before hoping on a 24-hour flight.
- He talked nicely and positively about his family
- He had a good work ethic
- He did not show signs of alcohol dependency or any other dependency for that matter
- He had been in at least one serious relationship
- He had also had his fun being single
- He respected my boundaries and was a gentleman
- He was nice to the waiter
- I could tell he was a happy person and happy with himself
- He seemed generous but not frivolous, and;
- he was a good friend to his mates
These are the qualities my parents had always told me to look for in someone I was considering having a relationship with. When I was young I thought their advice was lame and corny, but now I am so glad that while I was rolling my eyes at them I was actually listening.
My mom used to tell me “the way a guy talks to his mother is the way he will one day talk to you.†And my dad used to say “someone who is nice to you but not nice to the waiter is not really a nice person.â€Â Wise advice from wise people.
Thanks to my parents I have found myself a happy and healthy relationship as well as many happy and healthy friendships, and am myself very happy
What lame but good advice have your parents given you? Leave a comment below and let us know..
